Pectin scallops are found in all oceans and are commonly prized for their taste. Additionally however, some species such as the Noble Pectins exhibit such brilliant color forms in pastel shades of purple, yellow, red and orange as to make their shells equally sought after.

Additionally, they can sometimes be found encrusted with barnacles of deep red or maroon, which only add to their implausible coloration.
