The Great Orange Tip or Hebomioa glaucippe is one of the largest species in the family Pieridae, also known as whites and sulphers. The striking, day-glo orange tips probably help the butterfly to appear distasteful or poisonous, though it is not.
In Colure, as in the Solar Ellipse, the radical three-dimensionality of the butterflies' positioning stands in stark contrast to the usual flat, traditional presentation while the overtly juxtaposed tips combine to create a dramatic relief of color.
